Born in San Diego (1979/80), Sharp‑Collins earned her B.A. in Africana Studies, M.Ed. in Multicultural Counseling, and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University, where she later served as an adjunct professor. Before elected office, she worked as Community Engagement Specialist for the San Diego County Office of Education, coordinating programs across 42 school districts and supporting over 500,000 students, and as District Director for Assemblymember Shirley Weber.

Known for grassroots advocacy, she has held leadership roles with Planned Parenthood Pacific Southwest, the San Diego NAACP, the Urban League, and the Black Women Institute for Leadership Development. Early in 2025, she introduced a legislative package addressing youth justice reform, detention‑center nutrition, and community violence prevention. A lifelong San Diego resident and mother of two, Dr. Sharp‑Collins champions equitable education, community health, and family opportunity across her district.
